Erbil, Monday (February 23, 2026)
Dr. Niamat Mohammed , Assist. Lecturer Talin Dara Bahri, and Assist. Lecturer Ashwaq Ihsan Ramadan presented their latest artistic perspectives and aesthetic approaches in the field of ceramics during a scientific workshop entitled:
“The Aesthetics of Transformation in Ceramic Art: From a Functional Product to an Expressive Artwork.”
The workshop was held at 10:00 a.m., organized by the Department of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts, and took place in the (Prof. Dr. Mohammed Aref) Gallery. It was attended by a notable number of faculty members and students of the college.
The session shed light in detail on three main themes related to the specialization of ceramics. The speakers emphasized how clay works can be transformed from purely functional and utilitarian objects into expressive artistic creations that carry specific meanings and philosophical dimensions.
It is worth mentioning that this workshop complemented the practical sessions previously conducted by the artist Jason Clegg, in collaboration with the ceramics branch of the Fine Arts Department. During the workshop, images and videos were presented to showcase clay works produced practically, clarifying the transformation process from a “utilitarian material” into an “expressive artistic work.”
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants exchanged observations and discussions regarding new techniques of working with clay and the aesthetic dimensions of contemporary ceramic art.
