Erbil, Wednesday (April 8, 2026)

Assist. Prof. Dr. Surood Fouad Mohammed delivered a scientific webinar entitled “Music and War: Between Psychological Preparation and Human Expression.” The webinar shed light on music as a powerful tool closely connected to the social, political, and cultural dimensions of human life.

In one part of the presentation, the importance of music in organizing military forces and boosting soldiers’ morale was discussed, particularly through the use of percussion instruments and martial bands.

From another perspective, attention was given to the human and therapeutic dimension of music. It was explained how calm and soothing music can help reduce anxiety and fear, and contribute to alleviating the psychological impacts of war.

In conclusion, the dual ethical role of music was highlighted: it can be used in service of authority and the mobilization for war, but it can also serve as a human voice advocating for peace. The webinar emphasized that music is a psychological force capable of guiding societies toward transformation.
