Erbil, Tuesday (17 February 2026)

Within the framework of the academic activities of the College of Fine Arts, and in the presence of a number of faculty members and specialists in the field, a scientific seminar was held by Mr. Dana Salahaddin, lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts – Ceramics Branch, under the title: “The Techniques and Styles of Contemporary Ceramic Murals of the Artist Joan Miró.”

During the seminar, Assis. Teacher. Dana Salahaddin shed light on the historical transformations of the twentieth century, noting how ceramics evolved from a purely technical craft into a powerful artistic medium. He also explained how ceramic murals during that period became a means of conveying global ideas and the concept of peace.

In another part of the seminar, the rich artistic experience of Joan Miró was discussed, highlighting how he uniquely succeeded in transcending the boundaries between painting and ceramics. It was emphasized that Miró’s murals are not merely decorative works, but rather significant elements of public space that establish a direct connection with viewers and members of society.

The historical dimension of his works was also addressed, describing them as among the most important examples of the fusion between ceramics and modernism in the twentieth century, which brought about a fundamental transformation in artistic perception.
