As part of its academic activities, the Department of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts organized a scientific panel titled “The Role of Art in Raising Individual Awareness Against Drugs.”
The panel featured Assists. lecturers (Hana Abdulsalam Ali), (Gazang Mohammed Abdulwahid), and (Ashwaq Ihsan Ramadan), who highlighted the dangers and impacts of drugs, as well as the important role of art in raising public awareness.
In the first section, Hana Abdulsalam presented a brief overview of the types of drugs and their health, economic, and social harms. Then, Gazang Mohammed addressed the causes of drug abuse and possible methods of prevention and treatment.
In another part of the panel, Ashwaq Ihsan discussed the role of art in general—particularly visual arts—as an effective tool in awareness campaigns and in confronting drug-related issues. She also presented several real-life examples from international, local, and Kurdistan contexts, which enriched the discussion.
At the conclusion of the panel, an open discussion took place between the panelists and attendees. Emphasis was placed on the importance of continuing such awareness activities, highlighting art as a powerful intellectual tool in combating negative social phenomena.
