In the presence of a number of department heads and faculty members from the College of Fine Arts at Salahaddin University, a scientific seminar entitled “Why Are University Rankings Important?” was held today and delivered by Dr. Mohammed Hamid Salihi.
During the seminar, Dr. Mohammed Hamid Salihi discussed, from an academic perspective, the importance of global university ranking and classification systems, emphasizing that university rankings are an essential pathway for universities to become internationally recognized academic institutions.
He further clarified the significance of university rankings, noting that their key roles include enabling students to compare universities and make informed decisions about where to study, assisting governments and relevant authorities in evaluating higher education systems, attracting international students, and promoting the national higher education system beyond the country’s borders.
In another part of the seminar, Dr. Mohammed Hamid Salihi presented several statistics related to Salahaddin University, including: the gender distribution of students (54% female and 46% male), the percentage of international students (1%), the student-to-faculty ratio (10.5 students per faculty member), and the total number of students at the university, which stands at 26,525.
The seminar concluded with an open discussion of the presented topics, where participants enriched the event through questions, remarks, and the exchange of ideas.
