Scientific Trip of Teachers and Students of the College of Fine Arts to the Lalish Temple

Erbil, Thursday (November 6, 2025)

Yesterday, on November 5, 2025, the second-year students of the Department of Plastic Arts at our college carried out a scientific field trip under the supervision of the College’s Deputy Dean Asst.Prof Dr. Sami Ismail, Dr. Venus Ismail, Lecturer Ashwaq, and Mrs. Shna.
The group visited both the Khans Ancient Site and the Lalish Temple located in the Shekhan district of Duhok Province.

The Khans archaeological site is situated in a semi-valley tourist area, consisting of several rock carvings on the face of a mountain, depicting symbols such as a winged bull, an Assyrian king figure, a sacred tree, and mythical creatures.
The history of this site dates back to the reign of the Assyrian king Sennacherib (705–681 BC).

The second destination was the Lalish Temple, the most sacred place of worship for the Yazidi community, which also contains the tomb of Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir, built in the 13th century AD.

In addition to the educational and cultural value of the trip, what drew the attention of the teachers and students was the public service project of the Ninth Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Thanks to the newly constructed paved roads in such a remote and mountainous area, visitors are now able to reach the site comfortably without feeling tired or facing transportation difficulties.
