A Scientific Seminar on the Impact of Songs and National Anthems During Wartime

Erbil, Thursday (29 January 2026)

In the presence of a large number of professors from the College of Fine Arts, and within the framework of the college’s academic activities, a scientific seminar was held for the esteemed lecturer Assis. Teacher. Ashna Omar Hama entitled:
“The Melody of Resistance: The Impact of Songs and National Anthems During Wartime.”

The seminar, which took place on Tuesday (27 January 2026) in the Mohammed Arif Jaziri Hall, focused on the importance of music and national songs in struggle, resistance, and times of war. Ms. Ashna Omar highlighted the artistic and confrontational role of music in Kurdish revolutions and uprisings in general, with particular reference to the September Revolution and the March 1991 Kurdish uprising.

She pointed out that in Kurdistan, music has transformed from a source of enjoyment into a means of survival and preservation, making Kurdish music during wartime not merely a tool for enthusiasm and mobilization, but also a national archive that documents tragedies and victories.

She further emphasized that it has been proven that words and melodies can have an impact no less powerful than weapons.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the floor was opened for questions, remarks, and discussions. Through answering the participants’ questions and engaging in dialogue, the seminar was further enriched.
