A Scientific Seminar on “National Iconography Between Existence and Non-Existence” Was Presented

Erbil, Tuesday (February 3, 2026)

In the presence of the faculty members of the College of Fine Arts, and at Mohammad Arif Jazari Hall, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirwan Raafat, a lecturer in the Department of Plastic Arts, delivered a scientific lecture on “National Iconography” and the challenges facing its continuity and survival.

During the seminar, emphasis was placed on the importance of iconizing symbols, events, and influential subjects, with reference to the idea that:

“An icon is a purposeful construction; it is deliberately employed by the artist or designer to magnify the sanctity and value of significant subjects and historical events.”

Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirwan Raafat presented several examples and visual works reflecting the representation of themes and events from Kurdish history in artistic productions.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the session was further enriched through discussion, questions, and answers, making it a more interactive and intellectually engaging event.
