Erbil, Friday (May 8, 2026)

Yesterday, Thursday, Asst. Lecturer Rêkar Osman Rashid delivered a scientific seminar entitled “Futurism as a Revolt Against Classical Music,” shedding light on the emergence of the movement at the beginning of the twentieth century and its efforts to transform the foundations of art and music.

The seminar explained that Futurism was an Italian artistic movement that placed great emphasis on concepts such as speed, technology, and dynamism, while seeking to eliminate all elements associated with the past and classical traditions.

The seminar also addressed several key aspects of this movement:

Celebration of Technology:
Machines such as airplanes and automobiles were regarded as major sources of inspiration for artists.

Opposition to Tradition:
The rejection of old artistic and musical styles, which Futurists described as static and outdated.

Dynamism:
The representation of constant movement and energy in paintings and artistic works.

At the conclusion, it was emphasized that although Futurists faced strong criticism from contemporary critics of their time, the movement laid the foundation for electronic music and innovation in contemporary art, creating a fundamental transformation in humanity’s understanding of sound.
