The workshop was part of a broader campaign by Salahaddin University aimed at addressing the issue of violence and developing scientific strategies to confront it within educational institutions. In this context, the College of Fine Arts became the third college at Salahaddin University to host this workshop.

At the opening of the workshop, Mr. Yazng Mohammed Abdulwahid outlined the objectives of the event, explaining that its main goal was to identify the causes of violence within university educational institutions, recognize its different forms, and highlight its psychological and social impacts on university students. Another key objective was to promote a healthy and supportive environment that rejects violence within the university campus.
He also pointed out that the misuse of communication technologies has created an environment that facilitates electronic (cyber) violence, and that one of the workshop’s aims was to raise student awareness about the correct and responsible use of communication tools and smart devices in general.
Later, Mr. Payraw Anwar Saeed and Dr. Jilwan Mohammed Maarouf delivered detailed presentations on gender-based violence, its types, and methods of prevention.
From a legal perspective, they reviewed laws related to violence, particularly the Law on Combating Domestic Violence and the Law on the Misuse of Communication Devices.
They emphasized that, according to the laws in force in the Kurdistan Region, anyone who commits domestic violence is subject to imprisonment for a period not less than six months and not more than three years, and/or a fine not less than one million Iraqi dinars and not more than five million Iraqi dinars.
They also highlighted that the hotline 119 is available 24/7 to provide legal, psychological, and social counseling free of charge, and that all citizens can contact it in cases of domestic violence or any other form of gender-based or social violence.
