Department Overview

The Department of Music Science at Salahaddin University-Erbil was established in 2004 as part of the College of Fine Arts. The department offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers different aspects of music science, including instrumental playing, general solfege, oriental solfege, choral, choral, music theories, history of Kurdish and world music, harmony, counterpoint, music forms, music analysis Music leadership, music studio, ethnomusicology, music teaching methods.

Since 2010 the department has been a pioneer in higher education- offering masters, in 2021 offering doctorates.

Committed to excellence in education and research, the department provides undergraduate and graduate programs, preparing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in academics and the arts. Through a combination of theoretical and practical instruction and research opportunities, students gain global art learning experiences.

Lecturer, Department of Music, Salahaddin University-Erbil

I have a Ph.D. In music, I am currently working as a lecturer at Salahaddin University-Erbil. My research focuses on music, with the aim of developing methods and the importance of harmonization that address the challenges of Kurdish singing and music. Throughout my academic career, I have made significant contributions in these fields, with many publications in international journals and conferences, artistic activities at the global, international and local levels in the Kurdistan Region.

My undergraduate teaching experience covers a wide range of topics, including: music theory, harmony, counterpoint, piano playing, principles of conducting music, principles of musical composition, general solfege, choral.

In addition to teaching, I actively supervise undergraduate and graduate programs. Students, guiding them in their research projects and thesis work, especially in areas related to music composition. My mentorship has supported students in developing creative solutions that contribute to the advancement of musical arts in their respective fields .

Research Focus

Practical: My research aims to solve pressing real-world problems, including how to harmonize and distribute Kurdish music and songs.

Interdisciplinary approach: I work collaboratively with experts in piano performance practices and compositional practices, enhancing the social impact of my research.

Innovation: I pursue advanced methodologies such as piano playing styles, types and styles of music in a scientific and global way

1. Because the art of music is entirely dependent on talent, therefore, admission and study in the music department in addition to the total score, the applicant must pass the examination and interview in the music department.

2.This test and interview will be conducted by an expert committee to determine the talent of this person.

It is a four-year, full-time Bachelor of Science Music program structured according to the Bologna System (ECTS). Each academic year is divided into two semesters, with students completing 30 ECTS credits in each semester.
